Why SkiesAtlas
Weather that matches reality
Multi-model
ECMWF-AIFS (the world’s best AI model) as the backbone, refined by ICON-EU 7 km and HRRR 3 km by region.
Calibrated on reality
Our cloud cover is calibrated against METAR observations — no more “cloudy” when it’s bright sunshine.
Developer API
The same data as a REST API: forecast, marine, air quality, maps and more. skiesatlas.com/api
Our technology
A multi-model weather engine, calibrated on real observations
SkiesAtlas does not simply re-display a single model. Our engine blends the world's best global and regional weather models, then corrects their output using real ground-station observations. The result: a forecast closer to the weather actually observed, for 220,000+ cities across 240+ countries and territories, up to 14 days ahead.
- ECMWF-AIFS as the backbone — the world's most accurate global model.
- Refined near-term by ICON (Europe) and HRRR 3 km (United States).
- Cloud cover calibrated on real METAR airport observations.
- Storm risk assessed from convective energy (CAPE), not guessed.
Data sources
Reference public data, continuously updated
We rely only on public, recognised scientific sources. Models run every 6 hours; the rain radar refreshes every ~10 minutes. Air quality and pollen come from Copernicus (CAMS), historical data from the ERA5 reanalysis, and sea temperature from the MUR satellite analysis (NASA/GHRSST).

Frequently asked questions
Are SkiesAtlas forecasts reliable?
Yes. We blend several reference models and correct cloud cover against real METAR observations. Forecasts are highly reliable up to 7 days; beyond 10 days they become a trend (labelled as such).
Which weather models do you use?
ECMWF-AIFS as the main global model, refined by DWD ICON (Europe), NOAA HRRR 3 km (United States) and complemented by NOAA GFS.
How often is the data updated?
Models are refreshed every 6 hours. The rain radar and the next-hour rain nowcast refresh every ~10 minutes.
Is SkiesAtlas free?
Yes, checking the weather on the site is completely free. A paid API is available for developers and businesses. See the full weather API documentation →
Do you offer a weather API?
Yes. Our global REST API gives access to weather, tides, air quality, radar and more, with a free key to get started. See the full weather API documentation →
Where does the data come from?
From public scientific sources: ECMWF, NOAA, DWD and Copernicus (CAMS, ERA5). We invent nothing: we aggregate, calibrate and present.
